I used to use the CTC insurers, but they got a bit expensive when the bikes got into double figures, because the premium seemed to be a standard 10% of the cost of the bikes. However, the cover was good, so if it's just the one, it might be worth it.

Have you considered shopping around for another house contents insurer? Our current provider (I forget the name, will check if I remember) covers all the bikes for no extra charge!

Ive just changed my house insurer - halifax currently have 35% off and for just over £450 I got building and contents including insuring 2 bikes worth in excess of £5,200.

Standalone specialist bike insurance for just the same two bikes was coming in at over £500 everywhere I looked

How they will be in a claim I don't know but I have only heard good things

Bikes are covered so long as they are locked up, they could be in a shed or outbuilding and covered if locked securely in public

I use M&S insurance and it is good.  Any item under £4000 is covered without having to be named, and you don't have to give them the frame numbers of the bikes.  Bikes, luggage etc (up to the £4000 limit) are covered ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD regardless of if they are locked up or out of sight.  This is excellent if you have several or expensive bikes and like to take them on holidays with you.  The cover is pricey, but still cheaper than the equivalent from a specialist bike insurer.

Try www.eta.co.uk They specialise in bike insurance and are an eco-friendly insurer too! Rates are cheap, around £35pa. Also, someone else mentioned CTC. I'm a member and I'm sure that you get bike insurance for free within your membership of around £25 p.a

Let me know how you go on

I think Cycle Divas is thinking about the 3rd party insurance (which covers injury/damage to other road users by you in certain circumstances while cycling) which does come free with CTC membership. However, this does NOT include cover for your bikes - either damage or theft.
