Cycle Derby is accredited to deliver National Standards Instructor Training. This means that anybody with an interest in teaching adults or children to ride to a National Standard level can attend one of our quality training courses.

Information Sheet (pdf format)

Courses normally run over four consecutive days in Derby but can be tailored to suit different individuals' and organisations' requirements. Candidates need to be competent and confident cyclists. A basic knowledge of coaching or teaching would also be an advantage. The course is accredited by CTC- the UK's national cyclists' organisation.

The course will include:

- Fundamentals of Cycle Training

- The National Standards

- Risk Assessment

- Teaching Theory & Methods

- Planning and Preparation

- Pupil Assessment

- Bike Fitting, Roadworthiness and Adjustments

- Practical Teaching Sessions for all 3 Levels

- Course Structure

- Teaching in Real Conditions

- Further Information and Resources

- Child Protection Awareness

- Incident Procedures

Courses run on a minimum of eight trainees and a maximum of twelve. The course costs £500 per person.  This includes the initial four days plus a post-course assessment session (to be completed within six months.)  Bursaries are available from Cycling England (further information here).  For a list of forthcoming dates see below.
