Final Winter Race Report

The last of our "winter" races was held at OsmastonPark on Sunday 27^th November 2011. The day was somewhat blustery which may have sapped the energy from some of the competitors but it didn't dampen their enthusiasm.

The morning started off with the Cycle Derby combined U16/U14 & U12 race which lasted a gruelling 15 minutes. It was a well fought battle with the Wildman family dominating the older category. In the mix of the race our local hero Josh Scales fought hard for his 2^nd place in the Under 12's, being beaten to the line by George Swindell.  Poppy Wildman was the first girl across the finishing line. 

Next we had the battle of the Under 10's, they were flying from the word go: so fast they ended up completing 7 laps of this gruelling course. Our local rider Amber Scales again managed to get herself onto the podium as first girl.

Our final Cycle Derby race of the day was the under 8's; this is always my favourite race. We had children as young as 3 years taking part, most on mountain bikes and BMX bikes. They were either smiling or had their race face on: you could tell the ones that meant business! They fought hard for their positions but couldn't dislodge Otto Chilton from his regular place on the podium. Hopefully we will see more of Ernie Cresswell who managed a second place on his début race. 

I want to say a big well done to all the children that took part in these races, the main thing is that you all came along and had fun.  Some of you showed how determined and serious you are by entering the National U9s & U12's races....
