Cycle Derby received £85,000 to; re-design & improve the BMX track in Alvaston Park
With your support, it is our intention to; re-build the track up to a standard that will accommodate national events. The design will also incorporate a smaller “pump” track that will help to develop the skills of younger riders. Due to ongoing problems with motorised vehicles seriously damaging the existing track, we are also looking to provide a low level (4ft), gated fence to prevent access without permission.
We are sure you will agree that the Building of a national standard track will not only enforce putting Derby on the cycling map but will, provide the children & teenagers of Alvaston & Derby, with their own BMX Club which will host club, regional and national events. It will also allow the club to run regular evening training sessions and for Cycle derby to open up their monthly taster sessions to even more children.
After tendering to three quality track builders we have opted to use Jason Carpenter who has years or skill, knowledge and an impressive portfolio of previously designed tracks. He has already provided us with conceptual plans and precise area measurements.
We now have a start date of the 6 May and hope to have it completed by the 1 July.
Derby BMX Club has also received a grant of £4288 to help buy more BMX equipment, promotional material and to help contribute towards training courses for volunteers.
