The last of the Interschool Race Series was held at St Benedict School on 17 July 2010. Although the weather was not as good as we had hoped for,  we had two very special visitors: Shift & Sprocket, who had travelled miles to come and present the day's race winners and the overall series winners their well earned Trophies.

The main reason Cycle Derby had organised these races was to allow local children to put the skills they had learnt over a six week course into practice, introduce competitive racing and have fun at the same time. I was very impressed with the results they achieved, children gained confidence, their bike handling skills were put to the test and they experienced different courses, the kids should be very pleased and give themselves a pat on the back they have come a long way from being taught in the playground.

I also witnessed lots of proud parents and want to thank you all for taking the time to bring your children to these races, it’s a thankless job, I know!!

If you have enjoyed these races and want to continue, we have local “Go Ride “ Cycling Clubs that are working with British Cycling and organising similar races, so please go along and show them what you can do. It doesn’t matter if you have a Mountain bike, BMX bike, Pink Barbie bike or specific cyclo cross bike, the main thing is that it has two wheels and a good engine that sits on the saddle and pedals hard for the duration of the race, all of you can do this  If you find these good fun then it would be great to see you at the local Notts and Derby Cyclo x races that start in September 2010.
