Meet Jennie McGeoch the Sustrans' Bike It Officer for Derby.
Sustrans' Bike It aims to encourage more children to cycle more safely to school, more often.
I work predominantly with children aged nine to twelve in schools across the city each year. Through working with the school I promote the benefits of cycling and run activities such as cycle skills, Dr. Bike, virtual bike races and road safety sessions. Cycling levels in the first year typically increase by at least 10%. Bike It helps with School Travel planning, and links in with the
From an early age I have enjoyed riding bikes. My interest for cycling was rekindled at university as my main mode of transport. I love that cycling is a clean form of transport, very cheap, and most importantly of all, very sociable and fun! What better way to promote the benefits of cycling to young people, especially to their health and the environment, than through Bike It.

I work closely with Cycle Derby who, amongst other things, provides Bikeability Level 1 cycle training on playgrounds for years four and five and Bikeability Level 2 on the roads for years five and six across all
