Cycle Derby offers Bikeability Level 1 to all Year 4/5 children in Derby. The course is delivered by our National Standard qualified cycle trainers and takes place during either a morning or afternoon session. It's run on the school playground and uses loads of fun games and activities to teach children basic bike skills such as stopping quickly with control; looking all around (including behind) without wobbling;riding one-handed without wobbling; manoeuvring to avoid objects; riding with others and using gears. Once children have completed the course they are presented with a red Bikeability Level 1 badge and certificate..
Contact your school to see if there are any Level 1 courses planned. If there aren't, get them to contact us and we will set some up!
Cycle Derby offers Bikeability Level 2 to all Year 5/6 children in Derby. We have over 1600 children doing the course each year.
The course is delivered by our National Standard qualified cycle trainers and usually takes place at schools during one week for an hour a day. We start with a recap of Level 1 and an introduction to the things children need to be thinking about on the road. The rest of the course takes place on quiet roads near the school with children learning which part of the road to ride in; how to pass parked cars; how to do a u-turn; the difference between minor and major roads; how to turn left and right into different kinds of roads. On the final day the children get to put it altogether in a series of more complex manoeuvres and possibly even a ride around the local area! Once children have completed the course they are presented with an orange Bikeability Level 2 badge and certificate..
Contact your school to see if there are any Level 2 courses planned. If there aren't, get them to contact us and we will set some up!
